Dear Madame (Trolls), Shame on You

After listening to the speech by our beautiful duchess Meghan at One Young World Summit, you can see why some of these women in the Royal Rota might be jealous… But that is no excuse for the way they are treating her. And for that, just like for all of the other vile lies, nonsense, and trash commentary - they need to be called out.

Dear Madame, Shame on You

Throughout history, there have been women pioneers who have been a force of change and of progress. They have sacrificed their time, effort, and lives to make the world a better place for generations of women to come. Though the work is certainly far from over, we women of today - we stand on the shoulders of those who have come before us, benefiting from the respect, dignity, independence, and power that that our predecessors fought for and earned.

Some women today, like our Duchess Meghan, continue the fight, continue to do the good and necessary work of female empowerment and gender equality. But unfortunately, there are those women today who, though benefiting significantly from the privileges earned by our predecessors, hold back progress and attack the very women who seek to continue to push as forward as a society. Rather than holding and supporting Meghan in her work, these women have nothing to offer but vile lies, trash commentary and negativity. Meghan’s work and sacrifices benefit them, yet these women spend their time, and use their privileges to try to break her down – make that make sense.

Great women who have pioneered the fields of media and journalism – Anne McDowell, Barbara Walters, Ida Tarbell, Gloria Steinem, Dorothy Thompson, to name just a few – these women carved out a place for modern women in the media – they inspired the world, they inspired change. And some of you women today – you know who you are, look what you are doing with that inheritance – it is a complete waste. And that’s why you deserve to be on the wall of shame. Called out, and named for your hypocrisy, selfishness, and for some of you – your racism. We will not forget what you have done, and continue to do.

And for my women of color, who have the nerve to attack a fellow woman of color – how do you sleep at night? How do you look at yourself in the mirror? Knowing everything that we have gone through, and continue to go through – experiences that you almost certainly share. How can you do this? I wonder what the great women of color, women who have broken boundaries, and overcome impossible odds and succeeded – what those women must think. You probably don’t even know their names. Ida B. Wells. Alice Allison Dunnigan. Marvel Jackson Cooke. Mary Ann Shadd Cary. Are you proud of yourselves? Do feel like the “chosen one” – the one that white society has deemed ‘the good one’? You are falling for it – and doing exactly what they want you to do. The exact thing that Nelson Mandela’s grandson is now doing with his attacks on Meghan. You all, selling your soul and sacrificing your own sisters. For that, you too belong on the wall of shame.

And, now to get specific.

I sure hope this Megyn Kelly talking vile nonsense about our Duchess isn’t the same Megyn Kelly who allegedly went through a terrible ordeal as a part of the #MeToo movement? Because this Megyn Kelly commenting on our Duchess is saying things like “I don’t believe her”. I wonder what it would have been like if everyone had said that to her when she claimed that she ‘felt powerless when she was being sexually harassed’. What it would have felt like if no one believed it. No, this cannot be that same Megyn Kelly, the one who in 2013 declared on her national TV show, that both Jesus and Santa were white. But if it is the same Megyn Kelly – than you belong on the wall of shame.

And you – Miss Bethenny Frankel. You broke my heart with this one. You Bethenny, the woman who became famous and wealthy and successful by telling your own story on national TV. Now you have a problem with another woman telling her story? You, who just went through a terrible divorce, now focusing your efforts on trying to tear down another woman? You, claiming that our duchess Meghan “talks down” and is “sanctimonious”…. Why does that rhetoric sound so familiar, I wonder…. I see what you are doing, attacking Meghan for your own promotion. How dare you. If Meghan feels that she is being silenced, which she clearly has been, then she can tell her story every minute of every day. If you don’t want to listen to it, or don’t care – then simply don’t listen to her. But you don’t do that – instead you insist on holding back progress by attacking her. Attacking her perhaps, because she is #1, perhaps because she is biracial.. For this, you belong on the wall of shame.

And for today’s letter, the last despicable and utterly disappointing woman I will add to the wall is you, Natalie Barr of Sunrise TV. Your commentary on Meghan is vile, baseless, and honestly, embarrassing. You, just like all of the women of the Royal Rota who have participated in this smear campaign against Meghan Markle, deserve to be on the wall of shame. Because this is what you Natalie Barr, you – women of the Royal Rota, you, Bethenny Frankel and you, Megyn Kelly and everyone else that is attacking Meghan Markle doesn’t realize. That your smear campaign simply isn’t going to work. You will not be able to turn us against each other. If you think, for one minute, that we don’t know who our Duchess Meghan is, that we don’t know who her mother is, then you are sadly mistaken. We know who she is. We see her. And we are with her, no matter what. Your white supremacist agenda isn’t going to succeed. We live with it in our communities every day, and we recognize it for what it is, and we call it out. History will judge you. You will be marked down as those women who worked against progress, and that, is what your daughters and granddaughters will read about you, and know of you. Shame on you all.
